Clacking and Yakking
Rochelle said it all: Why is it you can look forward to something for so long and it passes so fast?!
Our girl's knitting weekend in Toronto was fun and fast! Mom (G'ma), Rochelle, Renee and I all converged on Toronto last Monday for a whirlwind "Stitch-n-Pitch" vacation. All of the major league ball parks hold a Stitch-n-Pitch night -- knitters and crocheters bring their wool and needles and "stitch" while watching a ball game. We chose Toronto. The Blue Jays lost -- no surprise there -- but it was fun anyway.
We stayed right in the heart of downtown and had fantastic views of Toronto City Hall, Osgoode Hall and some other cool buidlings. Tuesday - after visiting Dayna & Elliott's apartment - we spent the day wandering Dayna's neighbourhood with Dayna and Elliott. We weaved in and out of shops and took in the feel of the place. Dayna brought us to a HUGE wool shop. Actually the shop wasn't that huge, but it was crammed with every kind of wool you could imagine. Did you know they make wool from bamboo, corn, soy, and sugar cane fibers (among others) as well as milk and seashells?! It was evident we were going to be awhile, so Elliott took the opportunity to cut out and go have coffee. Seems wool shops aren't very interesting to him after the initial glance!! We had a nice lunch in a cafe called 'Shanghai Cowgirl' where Mom (G'ma) got her fix of perogies!
Tuesday night found us at the ballpark knitting and watching ball. It really was a lot of fun. They held a knit-off at the beginning: women competed to see who could knit the most stitches in a given time. The winner threw out the first pitch!
When we weren't shopping or eating or going to ball games, you would find us sitting in one of our hotel rooms knitting (clacking) and talking (yakking) -- a real hen party. (I can say that 'cuz I'm a girl -- you guys aren't allowed to!!) In fact, we joked about how funny we must look, all sitting on the bed knitting away! I taught everyone a new method of knitting and Renee really took to it! Watch those fingers fly, Dallas!!
Wednesday morning we packed up and headed off to the airport again. It really was a whirlwind 3 days, but immensley fun anyway. Next year we plan to go to Minneapolis so anyone who decides to take up knitting is welcome to join us!
There's lots of pics on the News page of 'iowanorth'. Check them out!

I don't knit, but if you're open to the diversity of crochet, I'm totally there!
